Round Recap

Need to get caught up on a past round? We’ve got you covered with the round recap pages below. Just click one of the links to find the map for the round, combat results, and a brief written description of the state of the Accordlands and its heroes! Along with round-by-round recaps, we’ll be collecting the finest memes from the Strategic Discord which can be found here.

Round 1 - At the end of round 1, Deverenia takes first thanks to the 80 point capital grab/OL kill play. The Dwarves and the Nothrog expanded most aggressively, with the Dwarves’ skill at pit fighting edging out Krun’s rampage against Deverenia. The Free Kingdoms and Elves follow behind with more conservative early expansion. The loss of their capital puts the Mercenaries in last.

Round 2 - The Dwarves ascend to a 20+ point lead thanks to rapid expansion and the seizure of the Deverenian outpost of Isadran. After a moderate turn 1, the Free Kingdoms expanded more aggressively, narrowly edging out the Nothrog, who built more conservatively on a strong beginning. The Elves hold 4th, with no great conquests and no great losses. The Mercenaries begin their journey back to relevance with the recapture of their Capital, and the 70 point loss of both a Capital and an Outpost send the Deverenians plummeting into last.

Round 3 - The Free Kingdoms’ invasion of the Dwarves paid dividends as the surged into first place. The Nothrogs’ steady consolidation of territory saw them rise into second, while the Dwarves lost several territories and costly battle points in a tie with the Elves. The Mercenaries continue limping towards relevance after a rough first two rounds, while the Deverenians flounder in last.

Round 4 - The Free Kingdoms barely hang onto their lead thanks to their Warlord killing prowess, with a few conquests making up for the loss of their outpost. The Nothrog are hot on their heels, 6 points behind. The Elves gain ground with conquests in the North after hunting down two Dwarven invaders, and the Dwarves have paused to consolidate their forces. The Mercenaries continue to gain points despite losing some armies, and the Deverenians continue to lose territory while at the very least annoying the Mercs.

Round 5 - The Free Kingdoms retained their lead with a conservative fifth round, conquering one territory and pit fighting well. The Elves rode the downfall of the Nothrog into second place, and the Dwarves surged back into title contention by killing the first Neutral Challenge Lord. The Deverenians climbed out of last for the first time since round 1 as they walked into an undefended Mourn. The Nothrog fought well during an all-sides invasion but lost enough territory to fall to 5th. The Mercenaries’ southern offensive was offset by the loss of their capital, dropping them to last.

Round 6 - Going into the last round, the Free Kingdoms are sitting pretty, 40 points up and with only two territories that border a faction other than their longtime allies, the Elves. The Elves follow in 2nd, but they’ve got their work cut out for them if they want to climb higher. The Nothrog and Dwarves are at a distant 3rd and 4th but have access to huge scoring opportunities in undefended capitals in the northeast and Medusan Lords. The Deverenians similarly could reach a lot of points but have a low enough score that they would truly need a miracle. The Mercenaries don’t have access to enough points to challenge for first but could easily play spoiler to the other eastern factions.

The 2024 Online Strategic Rules & Outline were developed by Graham Moyer after the previous Online Strategic event. The rules document is deep in an attempt to make the goals of the game clearer than the previous event and eliminate the uncertainty around surprises as the game plays out. The core of the game can be summed up below:

  • Players are represented by Overlord and Warlord tokens on a Map of the Accordlands.

  • Overlords issue movement orders to their Warlords causing them to battle.

  • Warlords who survive the round conquer the space they occupy.

  • Points are awarded for slaying enemy Warlords and Overlords, for defeating neutral Challenge Lords, and for holding conquered territory.

  • The faction with the most points after seven turns wins.

Obviously, there is more to it, but those are the broad strokes. Each turn of Online Strategic lasts 72 hours and consists of the following six phases:

  1. Deployment — All Warlords are deployed at the beginning of the game. On each subsequent turn, one slain player may be redeployed with a new Warlord. Each faction will have some number of one time redeployments as well, depending on player numbers.

  2. Movement — Overlords submit movement paths through any number of allied territories and up to one neutral territory for each of their Warlords, before they come to a stop in the next territory reached. Movements are revealed and resolved simultaneously.

  3. Combat Check — Potential combats are checked: Warlords of different factions in the same territories do battle. Warlords can reinforce into allied territories. No more than four Warlords to a battle—if there are more, admins will divide the battle according to a prescribed formula.

  4. Combat Resolution — Players participate in assigned map battles online over Untap.in and Discord. Pit Fights between players without battles on the map are also fought during this time.

  5. Post Combat — Warlord death, conquering territories, and round scoring takes place. The map is updated for the cycle to repeat.
