Entry: FREE
Sign-ups: Contact @Westley on Discord with your decklist by Thursday, December 1st @ 10PM Eastern Standard Time. The same decklist must be used for each game.
Event Start: Friday, 12/02/22 @ 10PM Eastern Standard Time
Format: Twin Warlord Highlander (explanation below)
Tournament Structure: Players are assigned three games to be played over the month of December along with the others in their 4-person pods. This event does not follow the standard 48hr round structure we have done previously. For example:
You are player A. You receive the following pairings:
Game 1: Player A, Player G, Player X, Player Y
Game 2: Player A, Player B, Player W, Player Z
Game 3: Player A, Player O, Player V, Player E
You have the entire month of December to coordinate and schedule each of these games alongside the rest of your pod mates. Games need not be played in any specific order. Leaderboard points will be awarded as follows:
Game Win - 7 Points
Game Loss - 3 Points
3-0 Record - 5 Points (26 Total)
Ties are not allowed. The game timer is 180 minutes or 3 hours total after which any players with surviving Warlords roll off to determine the winner. Card effects such as rerolls and bonuses to die rolls may not be used to modify the roll off and there can only be one winner. Roll offs must be witnessed by spectators or defeated players, and a screenshot must be provided in the event’s #roll-off channel.
Where: Warlord Discord / Untap.in
Prizes: TBA
Game Rules: 4E (Most Recent) Rules / Open
MRP / Errata: Most recent printings and errata will be enforced.
Limited Wish / Phoenix Feather: No. They may not be included in your deck.
Medusan Level Cards: No. Regardless of the contents of your personal irl collection.
Double Warlord Highlander is a big deck singleton multiplayer format where players construct their decks around starting in play with two Warlords. This allows for cross-pollination of the factions or doubling down on in-faction synergies, satisfying a lore win or lighting the lore on fire - no matter how you choose to play, this format has something for everybody.
The deckbuilding rules are as follows:
70 Card Singleton
You can only have one copy of each card in your deck. Cards that specify no limit or that additional copies may be used in deckbuilding bypass this rule.
Two Warlords
You start in play with two Warlords who need not share a faction. So your Warlords could be from the same faction like King Xod and Gnorrow Yaw, or different factions like Lord Gahid Rellion and Sorscha.
Faction Loyalty
You cannot construct your deck with any character of a faction other than that of one of your Warlords. So if you are playing a Terak Justicebringer and Sir Rhawn d’Ilchant deck, you may not play Rafkin as Rafkin is a Free Kingsdoms / Elf, and though Terak is a Free Kingdoms, Sir Rhawn is not an Elf. Additionally, Mercenaries are not ‘free’ in this format. In order to include a Mercenary in your deck, you must have one or more Mercenary Warlords. And obviously, you cannot simply put Kargaz Dythanus in your Nothrog + Dwarf deck as a Necromancer to be used while stunned.
Additional Starting Army
Your starting army must consist of four level 1’s in rank one, and three level 2’s in rank two. So one more character than normal. As usual, characters that specify adjustments to your starting army may trump this requirement.
Game Loss
You lose the game when both of your Warlords are killed or you concede.
Multiplayer Seating Rules
Table seating is determined by first round initiative from highest to lowest. The second highest initiative is seated to the left of the highest initiative player, then the third highest initiative is to the left of the second, and finally the fourth highest initiative would be to the left of the third and right of the highest. Roll off to break ties. Keep this table seating throughout the entire game and pass the turn clockwise.
Every card outside of Phoenix Feather and Limited Wish is legal for this event, so hit up the Accordlands and play it if you can find it!
