The Baddest of the Bad…
The Medusan Lords were the worst villains in the Accordlands, hugely powerful masterminds conspiring to enslave the world and ascend to godhood. The served as the highest tier of the Challenge System. Players could defeat Overlords in special matches during tournaments—if they managed to beat these uber-powerful Warlords, they would receive a signed copy of the Overlord, which could be traded in to challenge a Dragon Lord, even more powerful bosses with an affinity for Dragons. Defeating a Dragon Lord would earn the player a signed copy of that Dragon Lord, which could then be traded in to challenge a Medusan Lord. For most Medusan Lords, only a few copies were made: one for the runner, one for the eventual victor, and one for AEG. Later, there would be some exceptions to this rule.
The Medusan Lords were originally founded by the Nothrog Malrog Ironface, who brought in the Deverenian paladin Tiberius Blackthorne, the Elven assassin Cear Adinerach, the human enchantress Cassica Moonseed, and the ghoul Necromancer Majeral. These five together decided to announce their presence to the world through the utter destruction of the Medusan civilization, whose name they then then took. Shortly afterwards, they were joined by the Nothrog Seer Nassiral Hate, the human paladin Lady Bhaine, the Deverenian wizard Master K’hallaek, and together the orchestrated the Assassins’ Strike.
While Malrog Ironface never appeared in the card game, numerous Medusan Lords did—many were defeated, some achieved their ends and retired victorious, and others are still out there, waiting to be challenged.
