Welcome to the 2022 Online Strategic landing page! Online Strategic is a massive multiplayer online area control Warlord format where Overlords lead their armies into epic battles over victory points and resources located around a map of The Accordlands.

The Overlords are the brains of their faction. And should some poor soul dare challenge them, they can also be the brawn. Overlords are responsible for leading their faction to victory through strategy, map movement, and team coordination. Overlord privileges were assigned to the six registrants with the highest 2021 Online Circuit Leaderboard points totals.

The rules for 2022 Online Strategic are an adaptation from those printed in War Journal Vol 1 Issue 4 — scans of which can be found here. While we didn’t attempt to transplant every concept, the original document and the epic tales of live Strategic sessions it fostered were the inspiration for this event.

The 2022 Online Strategic Rules & Outline is the first draft of a technical document and we most certainly did not nail it on the first try. Templating, syntax, and ease of readability will improve should we decide to ever revisit this format and its rules. But while the document itself is rather large and likely needs to be larger, the rules mostly function in the background. At its core, Online Strategic can be summed up by the following:

Players are represented by Overlord and Warlord tokens on a Map of the Accordlands.
Overlords issue movement orders to their Warlords causing them to battle.
Warlords who survive the round conquer and loot the space they occupy.
Points are awarded for collecting loot, winning battles, and pit fighting.
The faction with the most points after eight turns and post game scoring wins.

Obviously there is more to it, but those are the broad strokes. Each turn of Online Strategic lasts 48 hours and consists of the following six phases:

Deployment — Overlords place remaining Warlord tokens on the map for any of their faction’s players without a current Warlord. Players begin with two Warlord tokens, if none remain they may not be deployed.
Movement — Overlords submit coordinates up to three spaces away from each of their faction’s Warlords as proposed movement. Movements are revealed and resolved simultaneously.
Post Movement — Overlords submit coordinates for any map related abilities that specify use during the Post Movement phase. Post movements are revealed and resolved simultaneously.
Combat Check — Potential combats are checked and verified by Admins using adjacent threat range rules. Four player battles are the maximum. Should more than four players threaten each other, Admins divide the battle.
Combat Resolution — Players participate in assigned map battles online over Untap.in and Discord. Pit Fights are also fought during this time.
Post Combat — Warlord death, conquering map spaces, looting, and round scoring takes place.
